Friday's geek weather report is less about flashy demos and more about invoices. Microsoft is splitting Copilot into a chat seat you already know and usage-billed Autopilot work that behaves like overtime. Ando just raised $20 million to give agents their own inboxes instead of making a human paste bot replies into Slack. Meanwhile a Snapdragon Galaxy Watch still asks you to plug in every night, and Bitget is explaining how $351.6 million walked out through spoofed transfers without stolen keys. The connective tissue: agents are punching a metered timesheet, and the physical and financial world still bills you for mistakes.
From chat toy to coworker with a meter
Our morning Copilot seat-plus-usage buyer guide walks through what Microsoft actually shipped. Everyday Copilot inside Word, Excel, and Teams stays on the familiar commercial seat (about $30 per user per month). Cowork, Code, and Autopilot (the always-on teammate once teased as Scout) bill on Copilot Credits. Coverage from GeekWire, The Verge, and CNBC lines up on Jared Spataro's framing: there are two kinds of AI at work, and they call for two ways of paying. Usage is off by default, which is the right default until your FinOps dashboard exists.

Do the seat math Microsoft wants you to notice. More than 30 million paid Copilot seats against more than 450 million commercial Microsoft 365 seats is roughly 7 percent penetration. Thirty million times $30 times 12 is about $10.8 billion of annual seat run-rate if those seats stick. The growth Redmond is chasing is unlocking Autopilot-style agent work on top of that base, metered like cloud compute. If you only need drafting and summaries, leave the meter off. If you want a teammate with its own cloud computer and identity you can @mention in Teams, budget credits before you flip the switch.
Agents get inboxes, humans stop playing messenger
Overnight we compared Ando versus Block's Buzz versus bolted-on Slack AI after Ando came out of stealth with Accel, Index, and Emergence money. Sara Du's thesis is that Slack and Teams were built for people, so agents become plug-in bots that force a human "meat proxy" to copy answers into the channel. Ando gives agents identities, permissions, and their own inboxes so they can join channels, sit in on transcribed calls, and ping a human when judgment is needed. Buzz already shipped a developer-focused open-source version of the same idea. Different products, same pressure: if agents are coworkers, they need a seat at the table, not a slash command. Token burn is not a side effect anymore. It is the payroll line.
Wrist battery and spoiled paperwork still bite
The rest of today's Geeknewz board is the reminder that the physical and financial layers did not get the memo. Galaxy Watch 9 finally lands Snapdragon Wear Elite and snappier Wear OS 7 software, but Android Authority and SammyGuru still see roughly one-day battery and slow charging on a watch that starts around $380 to $410. You can talk to Gemini with a wrist raise, then you still hunt for a charger at dinner.
Crypto delivered the sharper lesson. Bitget says attackers compromised a wallet backend, spoofed transfer data, and walked forged requests through the exchange's own authorization path for about $351.6 million. Private keys and cold wallets held, withdrawals are frozen, and the User Protection Fund (more than $464 million) is supposed to cover the loss with roughly a $112 million buffer on those floors, or about 132 percent coverage. The scary part is not a lost seed phrase. It is paperwork that looked legitimate to the system that was supposed to stop it. If you are wiring agents into payments or ops tools, that is the cautionary slide: key identity is not the same as request-path integrity.
If you run a Microsoft shop, keep the Copilot seat for chat and treat Autopilot as a pilot with spend caps. If your team already runs agents and is tired of meat-proxy Slack rituals, watch Ando and Buzz as category signals even if Slack is not leaving this quarter. Buy the Watch 9 for health and speed only if you accept the nightly plug. And if you hold funds on any exchange, read what "keys intact" does and does not mean. Agents are joining the payroll. Make sure someone is still watching the meter, the battery, and the forged withdrawal slip.
