Spotify has started rolling out paid podcast Memberships, but your Premium subscription doesn't include them. The new offering is a separate relationship with an individual show, so the useful question is what that show's tier adds to your listening, not whether you already pay Spotify.
The company's October 20 announcement covers 34 initial markets, including Canada, the US, the UK and Australia. Both Free and Premium listeners can join participating shows. Creators can set different tiers and prices, with benefits such as bonus audio or video, early access, archive access or fewer ads. Those are possible offerings, not a universal bundle every membership includes.
That distinction deserves attention before checkout. A tier built around early episodes may be attractive if you follow a show closely. A large archive could be more useful if you're joining late. Neither is automatically better value simply because the purchase happens inside an app you already use.
Read the tier, then check the renewal
The listener support guide says memberships renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can manage them through the Podcast memberships section of your Spotify account or members.spotify.com, including changing a tier when another is offered and cancelling. Access continues until the end of the current billing period after cancellation.
Before joining, write down the specific perk you want, the recurring price shown at checkout and the next renewal date. If you're paying mainly to hear one particular episode, distinguish that immediate benefit from an ongoing reason to keep the membership. Don't treat an initial burst of listening as a commitment to every future month.
There is also a privacy choice: members can choose to share their name and email with the creator, and manage that sharing afterward. A member badge on comments is optional too. Supporting a show and publicly signalling that support are different decisions; choose each deliberately.
The support page also describes a private RSS link in the confirmation email for use in another podcast app. Keep that link private. If listening outside Spotify matters to you, check the actual membership instructions rather than assuming every benefit, especially video or community features, will follow the audio feed.
Memberships could be a straightforward way to support a show you already value. The trap to avoid is treating “available in Spotify” as “included with Spotify.” Read the selected tier's offer, check its renewal details and decide whether the extra content has a place in your normal listening before subscribing.
