Bitcoin’s slow grind above $81,000 was the headline frame on Monday. The sharper move in CoinDesk’s Asian-session tape was elsewhere: NEAR jumped roughly 23% to just above $4 after its cross-chain swap product became a busy on-ramp for Zcash (ZEC) traders.
That is a market-structure story dressed up as a price spike.

What NEAR Intents is doing
CoinDesk reports that NEAR Intents—a swap service on the NEAR blockchain—lets a wallet trade one token for another across chains without the user manually bridging funds first. Consumer wallets such as ZODL and Vizor have plugged the service in for ZEC swaps. Daily ZEC volume routed through the platform jumped about sixfold in a single week, per the report.
When a chain becomes the path of least resistance for a hot asset, its own token often re-prices as a claim on that traffic. Monday’s NEAR rally fits that pattern: ZEC remained the destination asset (up about 3% to just above $1,500), while NEAR captured the routing premium.

Intent-based swaps matter because they hide the ugly parts of multi-chain crypto. Users do not want to approve three bridges, babysit wrapped assets, and pray the destination pool has liquidity. If a wallet can express “give me ZEC” and NEAR’s stack settles the path, NEAR becomes plumbing. Plumbing that prints volume tends to re-rate.
Bitcoin’s quieter backdrop
Bitcoin itself traded just above $81,000, up less than 1% over 24 hours, extending gains since the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission cleared a path for onchain trading of tokenized U.S. stocks last Thursday. BTSE COO Jeff Mei told CoinDesk the weekend spike mixed that SEC clearance with a short squeeze. He sees a relatively light calendar until Fed speakers and the late-October FOMC become the next volatility magnets.
Broader majors were calmer: BNB about +2% near $777, Ether and HYPE around +2%, with XRP, DOGE, SOL, and TRX up 1% or less. In that tape, a 23% NEAR day is not “the market.” It is a single rail winning a flow fight.
Macro oil and Asia risk-on
Equities helped the mood. MSCI’s Asia Pacific gauge climbed nearly 1% after U.S. officials described talks with China as “very successful” ahead of this week’s Trump–Xi summit. Brent crude fell about 2% to just above $101, its fourth straight decline—easing one inflation worry that often weighs on risk assets including crypto.
That macro backdrop does not explain NEAR’s outperformance by itself. It does explain why a flow-driven alt move found buyers instead of immediate fade pressure. Risk-on sessions are when routing narratives get the benefit of the doubt.
Geeknewz take
Ignore the “altseason” reflex. NEAR’s move is a reminder that in 2026, where swaps clear can matter as much as what is being swapped. Intent-based routing that hides bridges from users is distribution. Distribution attracts volume. Volume re-rates the rail. If ZEC flow sticks through the next quiet week, NEAR keeps a narrative. If wallets reroute, the premium evaporates as fast as it arrived—and bitcoin’s $81k hold will still be the slower story everyone argues about.
