The next Lightning Development Kit release has reached a testing milestone. Bitcoin Optech’s September 11 newsletter highlights LDK v0.3-rc1, a release candidate for the library used to build Lightning-enabled wallets and applications. The “rc” matters: this is a preview for testing.
The project’s candidate changelog adds fee replacement for pending splices, plus support for putting funds into and taking funds out of a channel in the same splice. These changes concern how applications manage channel funding; they do not announce a change to Bitcoin’s supply or a token launch.
There is migration homework. The changelog says previously issued BOLT 11 invoices containing payment metadata become invalid on upgrade. It also lists restrictions around downgrading while a splice is pending and replacing a splice negotiated before the upgrade.
For readers, this is a glimpse of the software work behind payment experiences. For wallet developers, the candidate offers features to evaluate alongside compatibility changes that deserve careful testing. It would be premature to assume every Lightning wallet already supports them—or to treat a release candidate as an automatic production upgrade.
