Apocalypse Z: New World is now on Prime Video, giving Halloween weekend a new zombie film that runs 98 minutes. But the best plan for October 30–November 1 starts with the people sharing your screen: do they want infected hordes, a crime mystery or an evening without fictional danger?

This week's guide offers one route for each mood. Nocturne launches a continuing investigation on Apple TV, while Netflix's SCTV documentary offers a comedy-history alternative. These are suggestions based on verified listings and premises, not reviews of advance screenings. U.S. availability is the baseline below; explicitly announced wider releases are noted separately.

Pick U.S. service What you can watch Choose it for
Apocalypse Z: New World Prime Video The complete 98-minute film, available now A Halloween zombie sequel
Nocturne Apple TV Two launch episodes on October 30; more weekly A crime story you want to follow over time
SCTV: The Greatest Show You've Never Heard Of Netflix A documentary film released October 30 Comedy history instead of scares

Apocalypse Z is the horror-night choice

The sequel follows survivors sheltered in the Canary Islands after a viral outbreak. A supply mission heads to Madrid, where the infected aren't the only threat: Roberto joins with motives that complicate the group's survival.

Amazon's release guide confirms New World is streaming in more than 240 countries and territories. It also says the first film, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, remains available globally on the service. If you're new to the story, consider starting there rather than letting the sequel's arrival dictate your order.

The Prime Video listing gives New World a 1-hour-38-minute runtime and a TV-MA rating. That's a manageable single-film slot, not a promise that the subject matter suits everyone. Check the trailer and content details together; one person's enjoyable horror night can be another person's reason to leave the room.

Nocturne starts a longer commitment

Nocturne swaps an outbreak for a serial-killer investigation. Liev Schreiber plays detective Jonah Lynn, with Zazie Beetz as Saga Bauer and Stephen Graham as Jurek Walter. When a victim turns up alive, the search resumes for someone still missing.

The practical distinction is its release pattern. Apple's announcement sets a global October 30 debut with two episodes, followed by Friday releases through December 25. You can't finish the season this weekend.

Based on the runtimes on the U.S. episode page, the opening pair takes 114 minutes. Episode three is due November 6. It carries a TV-MA rating and violence and language advisories. Choose this if you enjoy discussing a mystery between releases. If an unfinished story will frustrate you, save it for later rather than treating the premiere as a deadline.

SCTV gives the room a different option

SCTV: The Greatest Show You've Never Heard Of arrives October 30, according to Netflix's documentary announcement. Jason Hehir directs a reunion of cast members reflecting on the Canadian sketch-comedy series, with clips selected with their input.

The Netflix title page identifies it as a documentary film rated TV-14. Don't confuse it with a newly released season of the original sketch show. The reason to pick it is curiosity about the people and work behind the comedy, rather than an expectation of an uninterrupted stand-up performance.

Make this the first suggestion if the group doesn't want horror, not a consolation prize after someone vetoes two frightening options. Start with a service you already subscribe to, and outside the U.S., confirm the title in your local catalogue before paying specifically for it. Choose the mood together before you open an app; you don't need to sample all three to have a good evening.
