Ethereum’s next upgrade has a roadmap—not a launch-day promise

An unfinished translucent purple bridge has its remaining blocks waiting on the bank.

Roadmap check · September 14, 2026. Ethereum’s official roadmap lists Glamsterdam as an upgrade in development, targeting the fourth quarter of 2026. Its dedicated status page says the mainnet date is not yet confirmed.

What the work is trying to change

The roadmap highlights changes to how blocks are assembled and how their data dependencies are described. The proposals include enshrined proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists. In plain language, this is work on how the network organises and processes blocks.

These are planned protocol changes, not features we can declare live because they appear on a diagram. Ethereum explicitly describes its development as community-driven and subject to change.

Our take: separate three questions when reading upgrade coverage. What is proposed? What has reached testing? What has actually activated on the network? A target quarter answers none of those by itself.

This is a status explainer, not a forecast of token prices or guaranteed fee savings. The linked Ethereum pages are the primary project sources; their agreement is not an independent audit of the proposals.
